The LDS Church is miles above and beyond the others in it’s ability to bring people to Christ and make them Gods. The truth is found in the LDS Church like no other church on the earth. But you have to dig through it with the spirit to find it. You will not find enough truth in everyday church worship to be exalted, receive your C&E or even to know what the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is as contained in the Book of Mormon. It isn’t obvious. Ask 99% of the members of the church, “What is included in the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ?” and you will a different answer from each person.
The Church today does teach the higher law in addition to the lower law, but the majority of the members are living the lower law and are stuck in the Aaronic Priesthood Principles and physical ordinances. The Church can live the higher law. It is there and has been restored along with the lower law. But until your truly receive the baptism of fire and the Gift of the Holy Ghost, you are under the lower law. Once you receive these, then you have just entered the gate and begun the path of the higher law.
The lower law includes the law of carnal commandments that tells you all things what you should do. How to cut your hair, How long your dress should be, what color shirt to wear, how many earrings you can have, what activities are approved of on Sunday, how many times to pray, how long to read the scriptures each day, (the list goes on and on…) We make fun of the Jews when Christ appeared because the law had bound them so tightly that they could only walk so many feet each Sunday, just enough to get them to and from Church and perform any callings. But we aren’t far from that.
The Higher Law replaces the lower law and begins when we receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost. Once we have that gift, and presence of the spirit, IT “will tell you all things what ye should do.” (2 Ne. 32:3) Not the law. If the Holy Ghost tells you to break the Lower Law, then God has justified it and you will be blessed for it. The Holy Ghost is the Higher law which overrides and supersedes the lower law and church protocols and procedures. We can detail many, many instances where people broke Church protocol and procedure and the lower law to follow the spirit and were blessed or blessed someone else for it. The Spirit IS the Higher Law and it is written in our hearts by the fruits of the spirit, Love, and in our minds by the light of the spirit, intelligence/enlightenment. When you have the Holy Ghost, you are not bound to obey the lower law unless the Holy Ghost instructs it.
As part of that, all the physical ordinances of the gospel are signs and the spirit performs the real ordinance.
The church is the best system ever seen for bringing people to their C&E. Many have received theirs while going through the church system. Just don’t get stuck thinking that the system is perfect or that the leaders can’t and don’t make mistakes or that by doing what you are told you are living the higher law and going to make it to the CK. You need to follow the prophet by walking the same path his did and becoming a prophet like him. Not over the church, but over your own stewardship and lives. Prophets don’t speak to us for God because there is a wall preventing us from speaking to God ourselves. He does so because we refuse to or don’t have the faith to speak to God for ourselves. A prophet brings people to God, not to himself. He encourages us and teaches us to go to God directly. If he does not, then he is building a church up to himself.
