The Unspeakable Gift of the Holy Ghost

Chapter 7

To Be or Not to Be, That IS the Question…

Would God that all the LORD’s people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!” – Num. 11:29

Even after all the witnesses given, we tend to generally say to ourselves and others, “I am no prophet, I am no revelator, neither am I worthy of such an honorable title.”

Every prophet from Adam to our current prophets and apostles have had to overcome these same feelings of inadequacy.  We believe that understanding how prophets are called will help you to recognize the call when it comes to you.

(NOTE: If you honestly cannot feel the spirit or are troubled by worthiness issues, see our comments found in Appendix A.)

We have, from experience found that some are reluctant to consider that they themselves could at any moment be equal to the great prophets or revelators including Joseph Smith, the current prophet over the church or any other past and present prophets.  People mistakenly suppose that we might be somehow robbing these great people of their place of glory.  Anciently, the people under Moses felt this.  It is recorded:

“25. And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him (Moses), and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
26. But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
27. And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.
28. And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
29. And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD’s people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!” – Num. 11:25-29

Our current leaders have encouraged us endlessly to receive the Spirit of God and all its gifts including revelation and prophecy.  We can receive these gifts in their full power without being the Prophet over the church.  If we do it correctly, then we will receive from the Holy Ghost exactly what God wishes us to have and no more.  The spirit cannot lead you astray.

It is important to understand that while we can be given information about anything we desire, what we can do with that information is not always what we would like to do with it.

There are organizations, protocols and procedures which general members do not have authority to change.  This is as it should be.  The Holy Ghost can “show you all things what YE should DO”.   But others must follow the Holy Ghost to know what they should do.

Remember, the Testimony of Jesus Christ is the spirit of prophecy!  Are you a prophet or prophetess of God?  The Holy Ghost is the spirit of revelation!  Are you a revelator?”

Can you stand tall and declare, “I deny not the spirit of revelation (in me), nor the spirit of prophecy (in me)!  If not, then “wo unto him that denieth these things in them!”
