The Unspeakable Gift of the Holy Ghost

Chapter 15

The Pattern of Life

As we look around at all life, we see a pattern.  This pattern was set in place from the beginning.  As life matures and is able it brings forth life after its own kind.

An apple seed is planted to become an apple tree which produces more apple seeds.

A puppy grows to become a dog and if permitted brings forth after its own kind to make more puppies.

Chicks become chickens, calves become cows, kittens become cats.

It is contrary for life to grow up to be something different than what produced it.  A puppy must grow up to be a dog.  It cannot grow up to be a horse.  No matter how hard that puppy tries, no matter how good and kind it is, it will never grow up to be a horse.

Sometimes, the changes from the infant state to the mature state of an animal are as dramatic as changing from a caterpillar to a butterfly, but eventually the offspring grow up to become what they were born to be.

So it is with us.  We are the spirit children of God, created in God’s own image, male and female.  Our spirits are children of God and by birth right heirs of God.  They have grown up to be like that which created them.

But our physical bodies are born of men.  There must be a change within us that changes our DNA from that of men to that of God so that it becomes aligned with and compatible with the spirit of god within us.

We must be born of God through the spirit so that our physical bodies can become heirs of God as well.  If we live our lives bound in the flesh completely unaware of our spiritual bodies or the input we receive through our spirits, then we are physical beings and the spirit of God within us is dead.

But if we are able to awaken to reality that we are both a spiritual and a physical being and we learn to see, hear and recognize the spirit within us, and learn to recognize the input and instruction we receive through our spirit bodies, then we are born of God and our bodies become joint heirs with our spirits.

“24. For, said he, I have repented of my sins, and have been redeemed of the Lord; behold I am born of the Spirit.
25. And the Lord said unto me: Marvel not that all mankind, yea, men and women, all nations, kindreds, tongues and people, must be born again; yea, born of God, changed from their carnal and fallen state, to a state of righteousness, being redeemed of God, becoming his sons and daughters;
26. And thus they become new creatures; and unless they do this, they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God." - Mosiah 27:24-26

“14. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons (and daughters) of God
16. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together." - Romans 8:14, 16-17

Adam became was the first and an example of what we must do to be born of God through the spirit.

“64. And it came to pass, when the Lord had spoken with Adam, our father, that Adam cried unto the Lord, and he was caught away by the Spirit of the Lord, and was carried down into the water, and was laid under the water, and was brought forth out of the water.
65. And thus he was baptized, and the Spirit of God descended upon him, and thus he was born of the Spirit, and became quickened in the inner man.
66. And he heard a voice out of heaven, saying: Thou art baptized with fire, and with the Holy Ghost. This is the record of the Father, and the Son, from henceforth and forever;
67. And thou art after the order of him who was without beginning of days or end of years, from all eternity to all eternity.
68. Behold, thou art one in me, a son of God; and thus may all become my sons. Amen." - Moses 6:64-68

Through the spirit, we also are born of god and become patterned after the order of him who was without beginning or end, the eternal God.  It is through the spirit that we become “one” with God.  When we are one with God, then like Jesus, we are God.
