1 Nephi 1-7
Purpose: Teach that Safety and Salvation come through Obedience to the Lord
Object Lesson:
Hold up a cardboard sign reading "THE END IS NEAR"
How much impact would this sign have on your lives?
What if the Pope told Catholics to evacuate a city or a country?
How would that change if the current Prophet of God said it? (Proclamation to the World)
1Ne 1:4 - Repent or Jerusalem will be destroyed (13 years later it was)
1:5............ Lehi prays about what Jeremiah said
1:6,8-9.... Lehi is rewarded with a vision (salvation)
1:18......... Lehi obeys and prophecies to the people
2:1............ Lehi is warned to leave Jerusalem (safety)
2:2,4........ Lehi is obedient and leaves Jerusalem
2:16......... Nephi obeys his father and is rewarded with a vision (salvation)
3:2............ Nephi is commanded to return to Jerusalem
3:7............ Nephi declares his faith in obedience
4:1-3,6.... Nephi reiterates his faith in obedience
4:11,24.... Nephi is protected from Laban and obtains the plates
5:1............ Lehi's obedience is rewarded by the safety of his children
While Laman and Lemuel obeyed and obtained safety, they did not obtain salvation because they were not humble.
