First, read the Church News article:

Last week, Elder Porter of the 70 visited a Stake in Utah. He said that at the time the announcment regarding lowering the missionary age was made that there were about 55,000 missionaries, and that they expect that number to increase to about 90,000 by July.

On Monday, we had the elders over for dinner. They added that most of those missionaries are going to the US, partly because it takes so long to get visas. And, the church plans on creating 50 new missions in the US.

So, the question I have is, is this the prophesied time when the church will experience dramatic growth, or is it a final witness to the US before it totally unravels? I think it is the time of growth, and here is why. In 1994 Elder Packer said:

"As we continue on our course, these things will follow as night the day:

"The distance between the Church and a world set on a course which we cannot follow will steadily increase.

"Some will fall away into apostasy, break their covenants, and replace the plan of redemption with their own rules.

"Across the world, those who now come by the tens of thousands will inevitably come as a flood to where the family is safe."

Elder Porter also stated that the announcement to lower the missionary age was kept secret until it was announced publicly. The only people who knew, outside of the First Presidency and the Twelve, were those on the committe who worked on the plan. the 70's found out with the rest of us. This was deliberate. They wanted the church to feel the impact and to know that the Lord is hastening his work.

We live in exciting times.
