Perfection comes line upon line, precept upon precept. When we surrender fully to the loving arms of Christ, He cleanses us of sin and we then can begin to see ourselves, with an eye of faith, without sin in our lives. When we bask in the Holy Ghost, rejoice in the Spirit, we feel clean and whole, perfectly in tune with heaven. The more that we strive to have that blissful state on an ongoing basis, then we arrive at the next step on our journey toward perfection. When we are filled with charity, we feel like there is nothing that we cannot accomplish, including being a perfectly happy individual, accepted by God fully. Charity IS the pure love of Christ. We love as He loves, perfectly. One of my axioms is,"To love someone for the person that they are is good, but to love someone for the person that they can become is charity. And yes it never faileth."

per·fect   [adj., n. pur-fikt; v. per-fekt] Show IPA
adjective
1. conforming absolutely to the description or definition of an ideal type: a perfect sphere; a perfect gentleman.
2. excellent or complete beyond practical or theoretical improvement: There is no perfect legal code. The proportions of this temple are almost perfect.
3. exactly fitting the need in a certain situation or for a certain purpose: a perfect actor to play Mr. Micawber; a perfect saw for cutting out keyholes.
4. entirely without any flaws, defects, or shortcomings: a perfect apple; the perfect crime.
5. accurate, exact, or correct in every detail: a perfect copy.
6. thorough; complete; utter: perfect strangers.
7. pure or unmixed: perfect yellow.
8. unqualified; absolute: He has perfect control over his followers.
9. expert; accomplished; proficient.
10.unmitigated; out-and-out; of an extreme degree: He made a perfect fool of himself.

Too often we think of perfection in the gospel as fitting definitions 4 or 5. Yet if God once was as Man is now, and as God is now, Man can become, these two cannot be correct, because they remove the possibility or need for eternal increase. Definition 6 fits the word from the Bible better than 4 or 5. Each of these definitions can give insight into what it means to become a Perfect Man, but we must always remember it is called Eternal Progression because we are always learning from our successes and our failures, and our counsels with others.

I agree. I expect that the Holy Ghost, being a God, is perfect and yet he has not finished his progression. Hasn't even gained a body. The type of perfection that we need to focus on is not at all what people think. We can be perfect in this life.

As pointed out in this book by Elliaison, Christ was not the only one to become perfect in mortality.
Quote:
"And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and scheweth evil?" - Job 1:8

Quote:
"These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God." - Gen. 6:9

Quote:
"Because he (Seth) was a perfect man, and his likeness was the express likeness of his father, insomuch that he seemed to be like unto his father in all things, and could be distinguished from him only by his age." - D&C 107:43

And the young rich man could have given all he had and followed Christ and he would have become perfect.

I also believe that the entire City of Enoch and people under Melchizedek had become perfect before being translated.

As Kenh said, this happens through Love. When we become Love like God is Love, then we have become perfect like God is perfect.
