I am interested in a discussion on how this might work:
41 And Aminadab said unto them: You must repent, and cry unto the voice, even until ye shall have faith in Christ, who was taught unto you by Alma, and Amulek, and Zeezrom; and when ye shall do this, the cloud of darkness shall be removed from overshadowing you.
42 And it came to pass that they all did begin to cry unto the voice of him who had shaken the earth; yea, they did cry even until the cloud of darkness was dispersed.
43 And it came to pass that when they cast their eyes about, and saw that the cloud of darkness was dispersed from overshadowing them, behold, they saw that they were encircled about, yea every soul, by a pillar of fire.

Lets consider what Alma taught. If all we can do is have a desire to believe, then we should make room in our lives to act on that desire. Eventually we will see it is a good desire, and that will tell us we should believe. When we believe, we must give room in our life for this belief. When that belief improves our life in some way, we have knowledge that belief is true. This knowledge leads us to faith in other things, which we then likewise obtain a knowledge of.
In this particular instance, they all acted on their desire to believe by crying out. This action must have lifted the terror they had, which led them to believe. They continued to call out, and their belief was rewarded immediately by the cloud lifting. At that moment, they all gained a personal direct knowledge of the power of God and His prophets. Thus they were permitted to see the glorious light surrounding each person.
