While serving my mission in a dry hot place, I had contained within my heart while I prayed my dismay that I hadn't seen a rainstorm in a long time and that the thunderstorms always seemed to happen at night when I could not see them. That night I was awoken about 2 am by a distinct voice calling my name and telling me to go look outside. I did so to behold the rain falling and gigantic bolts of lightning being displayed in the distance. It was a fantastic sight to behold and I watched it for about an hour, feeling very fulfilled and satisfied. I contemplated what had occurred. The only explanation was an angel had heard my prayer and answered me. I received a testimony that God cares about our desires as well as our needs and His own plans. Whether or not the direction came from God to wake me, His servant did so because of my desire.
