This year when we read through the Old Testament, we came to Numb. 11. I was excited to see what discussions we would have around verses 26-29. We skipped right over them. In a later chapter we were discussing something that didn't make much sense without these verses, so I brought them up. The teacher said that she read those and found them interesting but that the teachers manual skips them entirely.

In case your wondering what these verses say, see below...

Quote:
26 But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
27 And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.
28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.

This is what I think would happen today if someone stood up and started to prophecy. "Oh Bishop, make them stop! They aren't supposed to be prophets! Make them stop!"

Well, here is Moses' response,

Quote:
29 And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the Lord's people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!

It seems strange that people would have a problem with everyone being Prophets, Seers and Revelators as if it was a blessing reserved for only 15 people at the top of the church!

I think that the reason this is new info for so many members is because the church doesn't teach this doctrine presently. Even though it is found everywhere in scriptures and quotes. It just isn't taught. Just like the manual skipped over these very enlightening scriptures, I think that they choose to avoid such discussions in church settings.

Bummer...
