During chapters 17 and 18, Jesus stays a little longer to show compassion to the multitude. He does not teach any new words, but teaches through His actions and His compassion. Here is what He did after He said He needed to leave.
1. Heals the Sick
2. Blesses the Children
3. Institutes the Sacrament
4. Gives Power to Give the Holy Ghost
There is some amount of teaching and explanation in these chapters, but it is covering again lessons taught already, such as the wise man building on a rock and the foolish man building on sand.
Chapter 19 shows Jesus return, after many go to great lengths to get there, and after the 12 teach all they can the words which Jesus had already taught the day before. Jesus gives a different Intercessory Prayer than given in the Bible, and the 12 are transfigured.
A couple other highlights, Jesus says between chapter 18 and chapter 19, He went to the Father and to the Lost Tribes. Unless the Lost Tribes were in one place the way the Nephites were, He could not possibly have gone to them all. This gives evidence the Lost Tribes are not merely scattered among the gentiles, but are, or were, in one body somewhere at that time.
Chapter 17:16-17 indicates Jesus prayed using words which no man could write or utter. Chapter 19:32-34 elaborates further that no man can ever speak these words, and man can only understand them through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Also, Nephi, and the other 11 Disciples were baptized in Chapter 19. They were surely baptized already in life. There is ample evidence Nephi had his C&E made sure before this event, and it clearly states he already had the sealing power. Yet he was still baptized again to prepare to receive the Holy Ghost and was shortly thereafter transfigured.
