Gospel Doctrine New Testament Lesson 36

The first few chapters of Romans is written to heal a rift between two groups of the followers of Jesus. Those who believe everyone who joins the Church of Jesus Christ needs to be circumcised and follow all the law of Moses, and those who believe the law is done away, including circumcision.
This leads into a discussion of works vs. grace. Paul explains we are saved by Grace, but if after being born again we do the works of sin, we belong to Satan again (or still).

Write some crimes on the board, as well as the punishment required by the law.
(Rom 6:23) Wages of sin is death
Ask someone to play the role of the Judge, two others to play the role of the Jury, another the role of Executioner, and another the victim. The guilty party is everyone in the room (Rom 3:23)
Tell the 'Jury' that we have the guilty party caught on tape, and he has confessed. Is he guilty?
Ask the Judge if he can provide mercy to the guilty, according to the law.
Ask the executioner if he can provide mercy according to the law.
Who then can provide Mercy?
Rom 5: 7-8 How many would die in the place of a righteous man?
Rom 5:17 The gift of life comes by one man (Jesus Christ) upon many

Rom 1:7 Paul is writing to the Saints in Rome
Rom 1:16 I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ
Rom 2:12 sinned without law, perish without law
Rom 2:28-29 You are not a Saint if you are only a Saint outwardly
Rom 3:8 We cannot do evil to make good come to pass.
Rom 3:23 Everyone has sinned at some point
Rom 3:28 man is Justified by faith, not by the deeds of the Law of Moses
Rom 5:12 Death came by one man (Adam) upon all
Rom 5:17 The gift of life comes by one man (Jesus Christ) upon many

Rom 6:3 We are baptized into Christ's death
Rom 6:7 He that is dead to sin is freed from sin
Rom 6:16 You belong to whomever you obey (God or Satan)
Rom 8:6 To be carnally minded . . .
Rom 8:11 If the Spirit is in you, your body will be quickened
Rom 8:14 As many as are led by the Spirit are Children of God

Rom 8:35 What can separate us from the love of Christ?
Rom 8:18 The sufferings now are not worthy to be compared to the Glory to come.

Rom 12:18-20 As much as possible, live peaceably, allowing God to take His own vengeance
Rom 13:9 Simplistic law to live by.
Rom 13:13-14 Live by righteousness

Rom 1:17-32 Speaks of the various forms of corruption and what awaits them.
Rom 4 The father of the sign of circumcision wasn't circumcised himself. He also did not have the Law of Moses. How then does the Law of Moses justify a man if Abraham, who was justified by faith?
Rom 7 Logic argument about what is good with the law and what is good with Christ's law. (it was illegal to be Christian)
